I know we don't advertise events on this list,  but I thought some of you
might be intereted in this talk by Mark Amerika, especially as I will be
reporting back on it later in the week. And if anyone on the list lives in
Canberra they might want to come.

Mark seems quite relevant to me to our topic too, since  he has transformed
somewhat from experimental novelist into visual poet!

FROM EXPERIMENTAL NOVELIST TO DIGITAL SCREENWRITER

MARK AMERIKA

Internationally renowned multimedia writer, Mark Amerika, on a visit to
Australia from the US,  will talk about his work as a novelist and his
transition into digital forms. He will read from his published fiction and
demonstrate his multimedia work at an:-

Mark Amerika, who has been named a "Time Magazine 100 Innovator" as part of
Time Magazine's continuing series of features on the most influential
artists, scientists, entertainers and philosophers into the 21st century,
is the author of two novels, The Kafka Chronicles (now in third printing),
and Sexual Blood (translated into Italian as Sangue Sessuale).

His epic online narrative, GRAMMATRON, was selected for the 2000 Whitney
Biennial and his sound art work, PHON:E:ME, was commissioned by the Walker
Art Center and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.

Amerika's recent cross-media art project is entitled FILMTEXT. The work was
commissioned by Playstation 2 for his European retrospective, and can be
accessed at his website, markamerika.com.

He is presently on the Faculty of the Department of Art and Art History at
the University of Colorado, Boulder.
